Alexander Usik continues to accumulate prestigious victories on your business card in the professional field boxing, after making Derek Chisora his 18 victim in the ring, and second since he moved to the heavyweight division. In a very interesting match, he rejected the resistance of the Briton, after showing a masterclass in movement and technique for 12 rounds and won by unanimous decision (117: 112, 115: 113, 115: 113).
At Wembley Hall, Chisora went to great lengths and launched into bold attacks early on, realizing that Usik has great class and can barely win the match on points. He showed that the match will not be easy for the former overall champion in the light heavyweight division and took the lead in the first 2-3 rounds, mainly because of his aggression. That, however, ended most of the good times for him.
Usik quickly regained his position and opted for speed and ranged combat to protect himself as much as possible from attempts to knock out the opponent. This seriously drained Chisora, who was facing a total collapse in rounds 7 and 8 and on several occasions Usik came close to at least taking him down. This never happened, but the Ukrainian did not back down from his tactic to seek a knockout. She continued to outmaneuver her opponent with one technique, betting on quick runs to control the outcome of each round, and eventually won the unexpectedly difficult match against the well-prepared Chisora.
After his triumph, the new intercontinental champion announced that his ambition was to become the absolute world champion also in the heavyweight division, after doing so in the lower division, but at the same time Usik was critical of his way of boxing against Chisora. For his part, the Briton regretted not being successful in his knockout attempts, but recognized his opponent’s dominance.
Usik already has 18 earnings on the profile, which was a №2 win in the heavyweights after the win over Chaz Witherspoon. He has the option of requesting a WBO world title match, but is expected to hold several more battles before “diving deep” against the best in the category. For Chisora, this was a loss of №10 and it is unlikely that a new world title opportunity will open up in front of him in the future.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MATCH BETWEEN USIK AGAINST CHISOR
After the delay of the program due to the long penultimate meeting, at 01:00 Derek Chisora was the first to appear in the ring to the rhythm of “Hotel California”. It is an interesting fact that it is rare that the champion enters the ring first, which in this case was the Briton who held the title of “intercontinental champion” before the match. After him, Usik appeared in the ring in the London hall.
ROUND №1
Chisora tried to be more aggressive early in the match, but Usik quickly leveled with two excellent hooks. However, the Brit did not stop pressing his opponent, and the strongest blow struck 1:40 before the end with a straight forehand. The Ukrainian, for his part, began to circle the ring to tire his much heavier opponent and managed to get into a “clinch” situation several times when his opponent got close. At the end of the ring, Chisora landed several body shots, while Usik managed to counter with a right left 30 seconds before the end – an assault for Chisora, who put in a lot of effort from the start.
ROUND №2
The British representative continued to attempt blows with his right hand to at least knock Usik down, but the Ukrainian defense was level. Chisora was more successful with his body shots, which, however, did not give him the necessary advantage. A minute before the end, Chisora managed to break her opponent’s guard and scored several accurate shots with her right hand. Usik even tried to clinch and looked at the referee, looking for a break, but failed – the second round in a row for the Brit.
ROUND №3
Usik finally responded mid-round when he threw some clean shots, forcing Chisora to attack again. However, the Brit seemed a bit slower, while Usik scored a big left hook, which won the round, the first points for the former overall champion in the light heavyweight category.
ROUND №4
Derek reopened the round with a lot of aggression and scored two points in the first 60 seconds, but Usik didn’t budge. He “found” him with a left hook, but Usik responded with a good 1.40 combination before the end. 1:20 before the end, Chisora hit with a right left, but was too weak to cause significant damage to her opponent. Usik registered a strong last minute, in which he put serious pressure on his opponent, but 20 seconds before the end he fell to the ground. Knockdown was not found guilty because he tripped.
ROUND №5
As in the previous parts, Chisora started attacking again from the beginning, but Usik managed to counterattack and inflict several precise blows to his opponent’s face. Chisora definitely slowed down his game and bet more on bending than moving in the ring. At the same time, the Ukrainian danced “around the British and thus protected himself perfectly from the forehand of the intercontinental champion.”
ROUND №6
Fighting from a distance was definitely to the liking of Usik, who made accurate shots, and then retreated well from heavy blows from Chisora, who even received a warning from the referee for dirty shots. 0:44 before the end of the round, Usik scored an exact left straight, giving him the lead in the round, while the former title contender tried to attack at the end, but never made an accurate shot.
ROUND №7
Total dominance from Usik in the round, who dealt very hard blows to his opponent almost from the beginning, including two right-left combinations that hit Chisora’s face and he swayed. At the end of the round, Usik managed to completely break Chisora’s guard and scored another excellent left-to-right combination, after which Chisora nearly fell into the ring and was saved by the gong.
ROUND №8
Even Anthony Joshua started yelling from his aisle seat to advise Chisora how to play, but the Brit had huge problems with Usik’s speed. After the middle of the assault, Usik went on the offensive again and scored several well-aimed blows on the Briton’s forehead. He tried the uppercut 20 seconds before the end, but failed. However, he finished with a nice left fastball and threw seriously on the scoreboard for points.
ROUND №9
The battle proceeded entirely at the pace of Usik, who was on the move as Chisora delivered body shots in an attempt to regain his lead in the match. He tried several double attacks, but Usik’s leg work was flawless and he avoided all the heavy blows from the opponent. Usik’s right straight again pushed Chisora out of the close range he was trying to use, and Usik continued to harass the Brit with his right straight. At the end of the assault, Chisora managed to secure a brief rest after entering the clinch, but the forces definitely began to leave it after unsuccessful attempts at heavy attacks.
ROUND №10
The Londoner hit an excellent 1:45 right straight before the end of the round and regained some hope. Chisora continued to attack in the next few seconds, but again with excellent footwork, the Ukrainian escaped almost unscathed, despite 3 precise blows to the head. With a left hook 30 seconds before the end, Usik returned to the round, and with a new left hook almost sent Chisora to the ground. Chisora responded with a powerful attack at the end, which was again unsuccessful.
ROUND №11
Usik opened the round with a much more aggressive game than the other parties and won with a right left. Chisora let her guard down for a moment, but regained her position, but Usik again succeeded with a right-left. The Brit responded with body shots, but Usik somehow resisted the attack, although the former title contender cornered him. The Londoner was visibly powerless in the round, but Usik never managed to knock him to the ground and did not make a good attack in the final 60 seconds of the round.
ROUND №12
Usik tried to keep his distance while leading on points and let Chisora try her attacks, which were unsuccessful. He was looking for a situation in which to lie to his opponent, but Usik did not allow his opponent clean hits. With 90 seconds to go, Usik also moved on attack to score some accurate punches and then went back to his strategy to keep distance and repel Chisora’s attacks with excellent movements in the ring. He also inflicted 2-3 left shots, which scored points this round and secured the victory, albeit without a knockout.
BEFORE THE MATCH USIK – CHISORA
After his total dominance in the light heavyweight category, the Ukrainian decided to put his skills to the test in the heaviest and try to challenge the positions of the three greatest in the division: Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Diontay Wilder. He is currently a contender for the official WBA title, but may lose his status in a loss to Chisora. So far he has 1 win in the category (in 7 rounds over Chaz Witherspoon).
Derek Chisora He is a heavyweight veteran and although he has 9 career losses, he still hopes to have another shot at fighting for a world title. He is currently in a series of 3 consecutive hits, and his last loss was to Dillian White in a spectacular battle two years ago, which ended in the 11th round.
WHAT HAPPENED ON THE SCALE BETWEEN USIK – CHISORA
The British boxer displayed extreme eccentricity, appearing “Joker” style for the scale before the fight between the two. While standing in front of Usik, he insulted and threatened his opponent, while the Ukrainian accepted everything calmly, wearing his mask (which should have been mandatory for both of them, but Chisora did not use one).
The scales themselves showed great superiority in terms of the weight of the two boxers. It stopped the scale at exactly 115.7 kg, which is more than 15 kg more than Usik (98.3 kg). The Ukrainian weighs just over half a kilogram than his match with Chaz Witherspoon.
