Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev presented a draft of the National Plan for Reconstruction and Sustainability of the Republic of Bulgaria. The event aims to launch a series of public debates on the direction of development of our country.
Next Generation EU is a new instrument created at the suggestion of the European Commission and aimed at a sustainable, coherent and fair recovery of the EU Member States from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Commission foresees the deployment of the instrument through three pillars: supporting the Member States in their recovery, stimulating the economy and private investment and drawing lessons from the crisis.
“European leaders had the wisdom and courage to provide funds to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic and social crisis associated with it,” he said.
“The EU budget, the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027 is more than 1 trillion euros,” explained Tomislav Donchev. He added that € 750 billion is the “next generation Europe” package.
“The challenges facing Bulgaria are well known: reforms in the public sphere, the social sphere, education. There is a great need for investment in the private sector to produce products at lower cost. It is vitally important for Bulgaria not to only produce more, but that the production has a greater added value ”, commented the Deputy Prime Minister.
Bulgaria now faces the new challenges of the coronary crisis.
“We need a combination of instruments: investments from the national budget, cohesion policy, operational programs, rural development program and investments from the reconstruction and development plan,” explained the deputy prime minister.
“Through this plan, Bulgaria will have access to BGN 12 billion, free of charge, grants, as well as up to BGN 9 billion access to borrowed resources, if the state decides it needs it. The deadline to spend the funds is 2026 ”Explained the deputy prime minister.
