From October 29 to November 12, sporting events in Bulgaria will be held without public, with the exception of the Sofia Open tennis tournament. This became clear after an order from Health Minister Kostadin Angelov on Tuesday. The ATP 250 race exception raised many questions as to why such a decision was made.

Dnevnik sought the opinion of the organizers of the race, which is being held for the fifth year in a row, due to the increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the country.

The “Sofia Open”, as well as other international tennis tournaments, is held under very strict requirements, mainly by the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP). Long before the current restrictions are introduced in Bulgaria, we followed all mandatory ATP recommendations ”, the tournament organization replied to“ Dnevnik ”.

The permission of the health authorities to carry out the race was obtained precisely because of the strict measures that the ATP itself introduces. According to her, the players are isolated in their own “bubble” (the so-called bubble) and the number of audiences is limited.

“Apart from all the anti-epidemic measures and regulations in force in Bulgaria, the organization of the ‘Sofia Open’ follows a strict ATP medical protocol, written in 54 pages, which contains the tournament rules with a main emphasis: the protection of the health in general, “added the organizers. .

The obligations of the players

Part of the tournament program, which is common to all ATP races, is changing. Autograph sessions, delivery when leaving the court are prohibited and no one in the public can be in contact with a tennis player participating in the tournament.

The players themselves and the representatives of their staff are obliged to observe a distance of 2 meters when moving onto the court. And player movement is limited and according to a pre-announced plan.

The medical protocol is strictly observed by the players, who can be fined for violating the rules.

The tournament also has a specially designated medical person: the Tournament Infection Control Officer (TICO). It also receives the data of the mandatory health questionnaire before each entry to the room for prevention, and also controls the process of controlling the mandatory COVID-19 test.

Strict rules in the hall.

The number of spectators in the room will be limited and the final number is not yet clear. Spectators will sit in two seats in the banquet hall must wear masks.

Disinfection by each spectator is recommended, and at the entrance to the Arena Armeec room, the temperature of each participant will be measured with a non-contact thermometer.

The tournament organizers made a special video in which one of the tournament ambassadors Julian Vergov explains the mandatory measures.

The ATP 250 series race will take place from November 7-14. The participation of seven tennis players from the top 20 of the world ranking is expected, and an invitation is reserved for Grigor Dimitrov.
