The next governments will not have many options and will have to continue with these costs. I do not envy the next finance minister, because he will have to propose a series of unpopular measures to get out of this spiral of indebtedness. This was stated on bTV by former Finance Minister Milen Velchev on the occasion of the budget project for 2021.
He outlined a series of mistakes. One of them is the planned child allowances.
“It extends to all families, regardless of their need. This money should go to those in need. My son doesn’t see why it should be supported. Many people will not appreciate this regular spending that the state will make. Although the government emphasizes that this is a temporary measure, I have no reason to believe that any government after that will not be able to resist the demands to extend the measure over time, “Velchev said.
He said there were reasons to believe that the draft budget was pre-election, as other economists claimed.
“On the other hand, experience shows that such extraordinary pre-election expenses, especially in the social field, do not give results,” Velchev remained firm.
He also commented on the planned increase in pensions:
“We still have to do with the pension increase which mines will be laid for the next government. Such a large system can hardly blow up, but the way in which this pension increase is proposed is subject to major criticism,” Velchev said. An increase in minimum and maximum pensions will in fact lead to a lack of motivation for workers to insure themselves, something other critics of next year’s draft budget have pointed out.
