Liverpool struggled but returned to the Premier League winning streak after converting Sheffield United 2-1 at Anfield.

The champions struggled a lot, and the Blades played their best game since the start of the season and it wouldn’t have been undeserved if they had left with some of it.

They took the lead with a penalty goal, then seriously claimed another, before the Reds class had their say, but Merseyside’s play was definitely not impressive.

The big news for the hosts was the return of Alison Becker on goal, who recovered from her injury. Jurgen Klopp made 3 more changes, as Diogo Jota also started, and Fabinho remained in the center of defense. Former Reds forward Ryan Brewster started for the Blades.

The champions pressed early and came close to scoring in the second minute, but John Egan made a key intervention blocking Firmino. An Alexander-Arnold transfer shot followed from about 150 yards, but Rumsdale fired over the crossbar.

The shovels rarely went through the center, but in the 11th minute they reached an excellent opportunity. Fabinho fouled McBurney on the edge of the area and the referee awarded a free kick. However, a review by the VAR followed and Andre Mariner reversed his initial decision by awarding a penalty.

Sander Berge left no chances for Alison and, for the first time this season, Sheffield United took the lead. This was Anfield’s first penalty against Liverpool in more than two years.

Then the Reds continued to lead and Vainaldum shot just over the door in the 18th minute. However, the opponent played hard and McBurney fired past the goal, and Alison saved a dangerous shot from Osborne.

Calmer minutes followed, in which Liverpool did not achieve something dangerous. The swords were demanding a new penalty for tripping over Berge de Jota and seemed to have their motives, but the referee ignored the situation. And shortly after, the Reds tied.

Henderson found Manet who shot with the head, Rumsdale saved, but Roberto Firmino could not fail with the incorporation. This was the Brazilian’s first goal in the championship of the season.

In the second half, Liverpool continued to have the initiative, but the guests acted in an organized manner and did not allow serious situations on their doorstep. Salah fired over the goal in a situation before scoring with a great shot in the 62nd minute. However, VAR intervened and the goal was disallowed by an ambush.

However, just 2 minutes later, everything was fine and the hosts took the lead. Manet was given space and crossed, and Diogo Jota was in the right place to score his second goal for Merseyside and his first for a Premier League header.

This goal reassured the champions, who gave the initiative to the rival and returned to their field. Berge had Alison intervene and then McGoldrick fired dangerously.

In the 80th minute Salah was unlucky enough to seal the score when he made an excellent escape, but sent the ball to the crossbar. In the end, Liverpool kept the lead and achieved the important victory, after which the team adds 13 points, as much as Everton, while Sheffield United is down with only 1.
