I support the sanctions against Balkan Stream

[ad_1]

On October 20, the US Department of State, the Office of Energy Resources, announced its commitment to fully implement the sanctions provided for in the European Energy Security Act of 2019 (“PEESA”). Russia was again called to stop using its energy resources to put pressure on its targets, and emphasized that “Russia is using its energy export pipelines to create national and regional dependencies on Russian energy supplies using these dependencies, expand its influence. political, economic and military, weaken European security and undermine national security and foreign policy interests of the United States. These pipelines also reduce European energy diversification and therefore weaken European energy security. “noted by” Republicans for Bulgaria “.

Republicans for Bulgaria fully share the US State Department’s understanding of the destructive role of Russian export pipelines, and in particular the Turkish Stream project, and its continuation of drought through Southeast Europe and Bulgaria to central Europe. As stated by a representative of the US State Department, the Bulgarian Balkan Stream pipeline is essentially a continuation of the Turkish Stream pipeline through Bulgaria and as such will suffer the appropriate consequences of the sanctions imposed on the Turkish Stream project.

Despite statements by senior Bulgarian government officials that the Balkan Stream pipeline is not the Turkish Stream pipeline, the facts show the exact opposite, namely:

– Accelerated implementation of the Balkan Stream project begins immediately after the signing of a roadmap for the development of the Bulgarian gas transmission system between Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Gazprom, Russia in June 2017. At the same time, Gazprom signed such “maps” with Serbia and Hungary. , but unlike the one in Bulgaria, they are not secret;

– The Balkan Stream gas pipeline is being implemented as part of an autonomous infrastructure for the transit of natural gas from the Bulgarian-Turkish border to the Bulgarian-Serbian border, without technological connection to the national gas transport network;

– The gasification opportunities of the Danube municipalities and Northwest Bulgaria are not considered despite the need for this and the declared requests. Furthermore, in conversations with representatives of these municipalities, the topic is deliberately avoided;

– the project, worth almost BGN 3 billion, is executed by a foreign front company through foreign subcontractors (including Russian), as the directors of this front company have Russian names;

The above facts are public knowledge and some of them can be seen on the website of Bulgartransgaz EAD.

Without a doubt, the sanctions to be imposed on the Turkish Stream project will also affect Bulgaria, and much more severely than Russia and Gazprom, because the entire risk of the failure of the Balkan Stream project is at the expense of Bulgaria and Bulgartransgaz ”EAD.

So who should take the political and financial responsibility for the damage that Bulgaria and the Bulgarian energy sector will suffer from their participation in this gambling project in the interest of Russia?

The answer is obvious and logical: the responsibility for this catastrophe should lie with:

Mr. Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria;

Mr. Tomislav Donchev – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria in the field of energy, etc .;

Ms. Temenujka Petkova – Minister of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria.
