Draconian measures along the way. More than 200 additional cameras in the capital will detect violations. These are the devices that are currently installed at the traffic lights to monitor the traffic.

In a few weeks, the system of the Traffic Management Center is expected to connect to that of the Traffic Police. Thus, in real time from here they will notify the Traffic Police of any registered infraction. For example: turning red, talking on the phone without the necessary device or incorrect maneuvers. And the sanction will be made by a slip.

The traffic control center system already detects an infraction: driving in a bus lane.

“The idea is to receive the information electronically, without delay, with the establishment of violations. Be it a bus lane, a red light, a wrong driver or something else. Immediately go to the Management Center of the Ministry of the Interior and send a direct notification to the violators, “said Kristian Krastev, Deputy Mayor for Transport of the Municipality of Sofia.

The new super cameras will monitor traffic violations

Inappropriate parking will also be monitored through stoplight cameras.

“The goal is to pay attention, to penalize drivers who supposedly stop for a while, park on the main road boulevards, right where public transport passes, cause large traffic jams, irritate drivers, reduce visibility” Krastev said.

According to the Traffic Police, reduced visibility around sidewalks is the reason for the number of serious accidents with intersections.

“There have been more than 1,000 accidents nationwide with pedestrians … 73 pedestrians have lost their lives,” said Rosen Rapchev, State Traffic Safety Agency.

In 15% of the cases the victims are from the capital.

“We put up anti-parking posts in front of almost all pedestrian paths on the wide boulevards in the center of Sofia, where we also have public transport, the idea is to ensure good visibility when the boulevard is too wide,” said Kristian Krastev.

These road safety sites are also being built in 50 schools.

“Parents need to talk to their children. Children are our future. Many people simply neglect a situation when they think it is very safe for them, yes, but they set a bad example for children who cannot evaluate this situation in the same way “Rosen Rapchev said.
