Some of the students of the First Secondary School “Sveti Sedmochislenitsi” in Targovishte as of tomorrow Tuesday, are in quarantine for 14 days and will study remotely. These are the boys in grades five through twelve. Elementary students continue to attend because they are young and do not have to be home alone, and there is no one to take care of everyone. Of course, if the parents wish, their children can also learn at a distance. This is a decision of today’s faculty council, which meets during a long and extraordinary afternoon.

The school has a total of approximately 1,200 students.

One of the reasons for the final measure is the death of the 58-year-old geography teacher at this school, Rumyana Radoslavova, who lost the battle with COVID 19 last Tuesday. On Sunday he felt ill and developed transient bronchopneumonia, and his coronavirus test came back positive. The woman had heart problems for years, but still delayed her heart operation, as the doctors suggested. Her colleagues describe her as “extremely kind”, she was already thinking about retiring. She was a senior teacher.

Orphans without their classroom teacher, the children in their class 8 “d” asked to go to distance learning at first, so that other teachers in the school would not catch it. One of the eighth graders turned out to be in contact with one of her parents, who in turn tested positive for COVID 19.

Another 7 teachers from this school tested positive for coronavirus, three of whom were in the hospital and several students were infected. 5 of the school’s 47 classes are still in quarantine. Another 7 of the teachers have flu symptoms but still need to be tested for COVID 19. According to the decision of the school management, the price of the teacher tests is paid from the delegated budget of the school.

For the school building to be completely sanitized, all of the school’s students were in distance learning on Thursday and Friday of last week, but this is clearly not enough to defuse the situation. In the last 24 days alone, the school has received more than 250 requests from parents for their children to go to e-learning. That is why the regional headquarters in Targovishte allowed the school management to contact the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev directly, who allowed e-learning for 2 weeks.

Already today, the students from the second shift returned home and did not attend classes.

In Targovishte, they suspect that the contagion in this school started from the city fair in mid-September, which took place in a meadow next to the schoolyard and which brought together many people who did not observe any anti-epidemic measures.
