In the autopsies it was clear that the majority of those killed by COVID-19 belonged to blood group A. The lowest risk was in people with group zero

Blood type is related to the course of COVID-19. This was stated to NOVA by the pathologist Prof. Alexander Tsankov.

The Bulgarian pathologist has performed dozens of autopsies of deaths from coronavirus in Switzerland. Due to the risk of infection, he and his colleagues followed serious security measures.

Their research findings show that blood type is relevant to the course of the disease, as well as the state of the blood vessels.

The deceased patients had a lot in common.

“Overweight men over 70 are at high risk for a more severe course of the disease, as are people with high blood pressure. 1/3 of the people were diabetic,” said Professor Tsankov.

The pathologist does not underestimate the role of comorbidities, but insists that they did not lead to the fatal outcome.

“Almost all of them (the deceased studied) would live longer, some for years along with these diseases.”

“People with blood type A are more prone to thrombosis,” said Professor Tsankov.
