A completely innocent gesture by Sergio Agüero led to another revolt of social justice warriors on social media, who this time pointed to our favorite game. The Argentine striker for Manchester City, who had just returned from a serious injury, expressed his disagreement with a verdict for a touch from referee referee Sian Macy-Ellis in a 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

This is far from the first game Macy-Ellis is responsible for as a side referee. Despite the fact that she is 35 years old, the referee has an enormous experience of ten years as a professional in the Premier League and is already recognized by both footballers and fans.

We cannot speak here of any new person that the sport is trying not to accept or reject directly. Macy-Ellis is no longer just part of the Premier League, but takes orders from derbies like Man City – Arsenal, and it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone that a woman can dictate what happens on the pitch with a wave of her flag. .

But that’s not enough for warriors on social media. Many of them, including politicians, persecuted Agüero for sexism for his actions against the judge, which were condemned as “unacceptable” and “punishable”, accusing him of assault and demanding his sanction.

Of course, for true football fans this is complete nonsense and it is obvious from afar who has seen a minute of football on the beautiful green field, who has physically undressed and for whom the only muscle fever they have experienced is the intense pressing laptop keys or touching the smartphone screen.

“Enough people,” Pep Guardiola defended his player after the game. “Sergio is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He’s looking for trouble elsewhere, but not exactly in this situation.”

And he is absolutely right. Let’s not make an innocent gesture so important and let’s not make Agüero the epitome of violence against women just because she asked for a touch.

The judges were kicked, beaten, beaten, spat on and all that, and the culprits were punished accordingly. Let’s not forget that football is a contact sport and the referee is part of it.
