The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project will be completed, the only question is when exactly. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in an interview published today for the German media group “Editorialsnecwerk Deutschland”, as quoted by TASS, BTA reported.
Referring to Washington’s criticism of the project, he said: “We make decisions about our energy policy and energy supply here in Europe.”
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages the construction of two lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast to Germany at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
The pipeline generally follows the Nord Stream route and passes through the exclusive economic zone and territorial waters of five countries: Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
Maas also said he did not share the view that if Democratic candidate Joe Biden wins the US presidential election on November 3, “everything will be fine again.”
He also acknowledged that transatlantic relations under current President Donald Trump have become more difficult.
Maas also said that Germany does not plan to abandon the dialogue with Russia after the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, as Moscow is necessary to resolve regional conflicts.
We are sitting at the same table with Russia in the UN Security Council, in the Berlin process for Libya and on the question of Ukraine. All forums are about finding a solution to end the wars, said the minister.
Therefore, the dialogue with Moscow cannot end, he stressed.
