French President Emmanuel Macron called the beheading of a teacher in Paris last night an “Islamist terrorist attack.”
The crime was committed in the Parisian suburb of Conflans-Saint-Honorine and, according to initial data, it is due to a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad shown to students. French police shot the attacker minutes after the murder.
Upon arriving on the scene, Macron declared the crime of terrorism and commented that the teacher was killed because he taught “freedom of expression.”
The name of the victim has yet to be announced.
“They will not win … We will act,” said the head of state.
The attack was carried out with a knife around 5 p.m. French time near a school in the northwestern suburbs. The attacker was shot while trying to stop. Details of his identity have not yet been made public.
There are four detainees after the murder. One of them is a minor. According to an AFP source, they were connected to the attacker.
The trial for the Islamist attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper office in 2015 is currently underway in Paris. This is the newspaper that published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
