The CDCOC raided the wrong address on a block of flats in the capital’s Levski district last week. The anti-mafia broke the door of an apartment and arrested people who had nothing to do with the criminal group they wanted. The head of the management Lyubomir Yanev admitted the mistake with half his mouth a few days ago. He succinctly explained that an internal investigation into the case had been launched and the results were awaited.
On Tuesday morning, victims of the “jewelry” operation recounted how police officers broke into their homes. They claim to have been beaten and insulted. All the time the police called them “garbage”. After the mistake became known, the special officers quickly left the apartment without apology. Shortly after, one of the heads of the General Directorate for the Fight against Organized Crime approached the stressed people, apologized and justified the mistake with the “navigation”.
Trash, shut up
The CDCOC’s action was against a criminal group for usury, organized crime, property fraud and drug distribution. It was carried out in various neighborhoods of Sofia with Roma neighborhoods: “Hristo Botev”, “Abdovitsa”, “Vrazhdebna” and “Levski”. More than 20 addresses were reported and gold, money, documents and gas weapons were found. A day later, Yanev gave a press conference with the specialized prosecutor’s office, during which it became clear that five people had been arrested and investigators suspected that private bailiffs had also been involved in his real estate schemes.
At the same time, however, Yanev confirmed that an error had occurred during the action.
“Yes there are. When the inspection is done, I’ll give you the details.“he said when asked if there was an intrusion check in the wrong direction.

“I woke up at six thirty in the morning from a big bang, from pushing the front door, I showed up at the window and asked, “What’s going on, who’s pushing?” And a man appeared and shouted: “Calm lady, we are from the GDBOP.” And I scream: “Where are you going, who are you looking for?” And he yells: “Easy, easy, we go against you“Desislava Krumova said. She tried to tell them that her daughter lived there with her four-month-old baby, but no one paid any attention to her.
Hooded police officers and machine guns entered the apartment and arrested the man. A bit later, they realized their mistake and released him. But in the meantime, his and Krumova’s protests were ordered to remain silent and called “Trash.”
“They yelled at us: “Shit, shut up! Give the phones, give the phones“Krumova said. She asked what was going on and they replied that she would find out from television.

“I was on the ground without resisting and I began to feel blows on my head, back, neck. They said, “Open up, cop”, but at first I thought they might be masked people posing as such. I looked at my wife on the left, they were kicking her too, but I was helpless, there was nothing I could do. They handcuffed me and then gave me an electric shock without any explanation.“Said Krumov’s son-in-law.
Then the police asked him if he was Stanislav. And when they realized that it was someone else, it became clear that they had entered the wrong block. “After that, they just handcuffed me and rushed out,” the victim said.
Navigation took us
A little later a department head from the directorate appeared. He apologized and said those mistakes had occurred.
“I asked him: How do you get into an apartment, you don’t study it? Emmy, ma’am, brought us the map, the navigation. This is an abnormal story“Krumova said.

We are investigating the case
Mediapool asked the Home Office what stage the inspection is at, how the error occurred, whether the police will at least repair the property damage and whether the injured family will receive an apology.
They replied that the inspection was not completed. The deadline for its implementation is one month.
Mistake after mistake
This is not the first time that the GDCOP has invaded the wrong address. In 2010, for example, masked and armed policemen entered the house of singer Krassimir Avramov and arrested him. They then apologized. Later, foreign media reported that during the same action, again by mistake, policemen entered the home of a French banker. A year later, a family from Varna complained that the door had been knocked down early in the morning after mistaking the entrance to the block. In 2014, the police raided the home of an elderly Vidin family. Subsequently, the then Interior Minister Yordan Bakalov personally visited them and apologized.
