This morning a storm broke out with strong gusts of wind over Smolyan and it rained heavily for 20 minutes. The wind blew down many trees in Smolyan and the region. There are also fallen trees and roof tiles on the city streets. Some of the roofs have broken sheets.
According to the regional deputy governor of Smolyan, Adrian Petrov, the peak of the storm has passed. The strong storm is already moving from Smolyan to the municipalities of Madan and Zlatograd, and in the Devin area the situation is normalizing. So far no major damage, according to the district governor.
In the towns of the Smolyan and Chepelare municipalities, there was a power outage for several minutes, but it has already been restored. A transmission line between Sarnitsa and Shiroka Polyana has failed, but cable electricity has also been restored there. In Smolyan, two roofs have fallen in Kaptazha district and there is no electricity due to fallen trees on Parvi Mai street.
In Madan, a severe storm flooded the basements of a block of flats on Republika Street.
Crews are already working to drain basements and clear downed trees.
There are also many signs on the roads in the area for fallen trees and stones, but there are no closed roads at this stage. There are fallen stones on the Stoykite – Shiroka Laka road, and fallen trees in the directions Starchevo – Nedelino, Smolyan Pamporovo and Batak – Dospat.
