ACTS announces journalistic investigations of various media because it supports freedom of expression.

Investigation of c. “Now”

Log box. This is how the case of the apartment of former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov can be determined. The question of whether a crime has been committed remains on the agenda of the Prosecutor’s Office, which otherwise continues to work hard.
Does Vladislav Goranov live for free? It is a question that was asked in November 2018. It came to the attention of the specialized prosecutor’s office in March 2019.

The property is owned by businessman Ivan Sariev, whose son was appointed until recently in Goranov’s department in 2015. Sariev is also the godfather of the former finance minister and his children. The property that Goranov has been living in for free since 2012 is quite luxurious.

However, the prosecutor’s office was reluctant to verify.

Initially, the procrastination was justified by the fact that KPKONPI is waiting for a decision on whether Goranov has a conflict of interest. On March 1, KPKONPI ruled that Goranov had not violated the law. The Finance Minister paid his own bills and is not related to Sariev. There was no conflict of interest in the appointment of Sariev Jr. in the Ministry of Finance, recalls the newspaper “Sega”. The prosecution did not protest the decision.

Among the reasons for the anti-corruption commission to acquit Goranov was that 13 companies related to the Sariev had not obtained public contracts from the Ministry of Finance. Therefore, Goranov has not exercised any official power, nor does he have a private interest that could affect him.

The file path

In the prosecution report, which was presented by Ivan Geshev last week, 99.2% of cases are resolved by prosecutors within a month. However, it is unclear how far the case file with the apartment and Goranov has reached.

The reason for the delay is unknown, despite attempts by the publication to follow up on the case. Last Thursday, questions were asked of the spokesperson for the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Genka Brezashka, who is also a prosecutor. He requested that they be sent electronically and the response was delayed for several days. However, it contains data for another case. Still no further reaction.

In this context, the responses of the prosecution management to the European Parliament stated that the prosecution “acts to provide the necessary information of public interest to civil society, including by publishing case materials”. However, the selectivity with which this is done is missed ”, they also report from the newspaper“ Sega ”.
