According to the opposition television Mtavari, in front of the entrance of the building where the meeting was to take place, a young man with a hood over his head attacked Saakashvili, hitting him several times on the head. Several other people were injured in the incident, BTA reports.

Saakashvili still managed to meet with the emigrants and tell them about his political plans.

Saakashvili was president of Georgia from 2004 to 2013. Following the defeat of his party, the United National Movement in elections and the expiration of his presidential term, he left the country and lived abroad until 2015, when he received Ukrainian citizenship.

In recent years, the activities of Saakashvili and his supporters in Georgia have led to various lawsuits. So far he has received two default sentences and a total of six years in prison, and there are several more cases pending in court against him, notes Sputnik Georgia.
