British students have been banned from singing the Happy Birthday song in class for fear that it could help spread the coronavirus, according to the Daily Mail. Students were advised to listen to the song on YouTube or hum it. The new measure is explained by the fact that during the song the drops fall into the air and thus an infected person can transmit the virus to others.
Some schools have even banned homemade cakes.
Christine Beth, co-chair of the UsForThem Parent Activist Parent Group in Cambridge, said the ban on singing in school was one of many harmful measures, including limited access to water and toilets.
“UsForThem believes that children have suffered enough from the long hiatus in their education and should be given the opportunity to return to a normal and comfortable environment,” says Beth.
According to her, singing does not pose a great danger to the transmission of the virus from children. “We cannot pause the lives of young people forever,” added the mother.
