The earthquakes were recorded early this morning
Several strong earthquakes, two of which with magnitudes 5.1 and 5.2 on the Richter scale, struck this morning near the Greek island of Crete, BTA reported.

An unusual earthquake shook northern Europe
The earthquake had its epicenter in the sea, about 50 kilometers from the Cretan city of Sitia and about 350 kilometers southeast of the capital Athens.
According to the Greek Institute of Geodynamics, the first earthquake was registered at 3.30 am and had a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale, and so far the last one, at 7.11 am, with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale.

5.9 on the Richter scale in Russia
The other three earthquakes were weaker, with a magnitude between 4.1 and 4.4, and occurred in the interval between the two strongest.
