Lewis Hamilton equaled Michael Schumacher’s record for number of Formula 1 victories, having already had 91 career successes. The six-time world champion triumphed at the Nurburgring for the Eiffel Grand Prix.
The Briton started from second position, but overtook his teammate Valteri Botas, and then took advantage of the Finn’s elimination.
Max Verstappen was second behind Hamilton, and Daniel Ricardo with a Renault took the podium. On the final lap, Verstappen took another point from Hamilton after setting the fastest lap on the track.
The victory is Hamilton’s seventh in 11 starts so far this season. He has 230 points and now has 69 more than Boots. Verstappen is third with 147 points.
The race started with a good start for Hamilton, who finished in better position than Boots at the first turn, but at the next turn the Finn managed to lead the column. Back then, Verstappen was third and fourth Charles Löckler, who began to fool around.
Boots couldn’t get away from Hamilton, loaded his tires and made a mistake. This allowed the world champion to overtake him. A little later, Boots lost power and had to abandon the race.
Within a few laps, three more drivers dropped out due to technical damage.
Slowly, Hamilton began to build up a lead and had no trouble keeping Verstappen behind. In the last laps, a safety car was released due to the elimination of Lando Norris.
This reduced the gaps on the forehead and left opportunities for Verstappen to strive for success. On the restart, Hamilton had no problems, reopening the lead and escaping to finish successfully.
