Manchester United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward is ready to fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if the team’s results do not improve, island media say. The Red Devils lost two of their three Premier League matches in the new campaign, and just before the international break they were beaten 6-1 at the Old Trafford center by Tottenham.
Former Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino is the leading candidate for Solskjaer’s place and, according to the Mirror, Woodward “personally insisted” that he was ready to remove the Norwegian from his post if United’s form continues to deteriorate.
The report claims that Woodward used Liverpool as an example. Reds club legend Kenny Dalglish was fired in 2012 for unsatisfactory results after leaving the Merseysiders in eighth place. United’s strongman fears such a development.
Solskjaer appears to face a difficult task in the coming weeks as United take on Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, hosting both Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League.
On top of all this, the Red Devils had a difficult summer transfer window in which they failed to get any of their major goals, including Jaden Sancho.
