The coronavirus pandemic is growing around the world. The Spanish government has declared a state of emergency in and around Madrid to impose a partial blockade to limit the rapid spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), without taking into account the resistance of regional authorities, AFP reported.
“The government has decided to declare a state of emergency for the next 15 days,” Health Minister Salvador Ila said after an emergency cabinet meeting after the district’s supreme court lifted restrictions on 4.5 million of people in the capital and its surroundings.
“Protecting the health of people in Madrid is absolutely necessary,” he insisted, citing data showing that 66 people had died in the past week and some 500 were “fighting for their lives in intensive care.”
“Patience has a limit,” stressed the Spanish Minister of Health, pointing out the regional authorities of Madrid for not acting.
“Measures must be taken to protect the health of the people of Madrid and prevent the spread of the infection to other areas,” Salvador Ila said.
Meanwhile in Russia An absolute record of coronavirus morbidity has been reported since the start of the pandemic – more than 12,100 new cases in the last 24 hours. The previous record of more than 11,600 infected was set on May 11.
Moscow remains the leader in the spread of coronavirus infection with more than 3,700 new cases per day. Starting today, new restrictions are being introduced in the capital.
Until October 28, preferential travel cards for public transport for retirees will be suspended, and until October 18 – for students. Then the fall break is over.
Schools are increasingly likely to switch to distance learning from the next day. Meanwhile, the Vector Research Center for Virology and Biotechnology in Novosibirsk announced that the second Russian vaccine against COVID-19, which they are developing, will be registered on October 15.
The first, created at the Gamalea National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, received official registration on August 11, before the start of the third final phase of clinical trials.
Slovakia today recorded another daily anti-registration of new coronavirus cases, forcing authorities to ask the military for help from health officials and to warn about the introduction of stricter restrictions on
public life, Reuters reported.
Defense Minister Yaroslav Nad said almost 1,500 soldiers would be assigned to help the health system. Initially, 267 of them will be available to health authorities over the weekend to help track the contacts of people infected with the coronavirus.
Slovakia reported 1,184 new coronavirus infections per day, authorities said, bringing the total number of 5.5 million infected people in the country to 16,910. To date, there have been 57 deaths and 370 COVID-19 hospitalized.
Health Minister Marek Krajci said that the base reproductive number for the spread of the infection is around 1.4, which means doubling new cases in a week.
For the moment, the Slovak authorities have avoided a general quarantine, but have introduced the use of masks in closed public spaces, limited the number of customers in shops, ordered the closure of restaurants and bars at 10 p.m. and they have limited the number of participants in sporting and social events.
