Experts estimate that 700,000 people fall victim to particularly resistant species of bacteria each year.

US scientists have warned of a new global threat related to the spread of superbugs, Science Alert reported, cited by BGNES.

UN: a new global pandemic threatens the world

700,000 people worldwide are victims of particularly resistant species of bacteria each year. The WHO assumes that by 2050 the number of people infected with harmful microorganisms could reach 10 million.

Experts note that due to the frequent use of antibiotics, especially in animal husbandry, many bacterial infections, including strains of gonorrhea, tuberculosis, and salmonella, have become very difficult and sometimes impossible to treat.

As Stephanie Stratty, professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego, points out, in the face of a pandemic and the uncontrolled use of antibiotics, the world can face the aggression of a new pathogen more quickly.

The six months of the pandemic in numbers

“Unlike COVID-19, which appeared suddenly, the superbacterial crisis is gradually maturing. It is already a pandemic. It is a global crisis and due to COVID the situation is getting worse,” said the professor.
