The European Parliament rejected the amendments, which referred to the Bulgarian president in the draft resolution on the situation of the rule of law in Bulgaria, reports BNR.

With the votes of the Socialists, the Liberals and the Greens, MEPs rejected the proposals, which were intended to add the Bulgarian president to the prime minister in the text on high-level corruption.

The proposal to add a text on the links between foreign intelligence services and the president’s advisers was also not accepted, as well as accepting the decision of the Bulgarian government to expel diplomats who allegedly carried out military espionage and collected information that represents a state secret. to be transmitted to a third country.

The text referring to the advisers of the head of State Plamen Uzunov and Iliya Milushev, accused of official crimes, such as illegal possession and storage of a large number of documents, which also represent classified information and illegally obtained by the State Intelligence Agency, did not get a green light. In addition to participating in a criminal association for influence peddling, as part of the criminal activity was to exert influence so that a Russian citizen could obtain Bulgarian citizenship.

The proposed text on the president’s political neutrality and his use of ongoing protests as a platform for his office was also dropped.

The text that links the protests with their funding by businessman Vasil Bozhkov was withdrawn yesterday by petitioner Roberta Mezzola.

The texts in which the monitoring of the follow-up within the framework of the cooperation and verification mechanism for Bulgaria was abandoned and in which it was regretted that Bulgaria had rejected the Istanbul Convention were also abandoned.

Mezzola was the author of most of the amendments, whose objective was to soften the critical passages against the prime minister and the government.

The results of the vote on the entire document will be clear after 17:00 Bulgarian time.
