Therefore, the European project partners (Engie Energy, Uniper, OMV, Shell and Wintershall) have to pay PLN 234 million (USD 61 million). In addition, they are obliged to terminate the financing contracts for the construction of the gas pipeline within 30 days.

According to Khrushny, the Polish regulator is ready for Gazprom to appeal the decision on the fine.

Last spring, UOKiK accused Gazprom and its five partners at Nord Stream 2 of violating the country’s antitrust laws by financing the construction of the gas pipeline. In November, the regulator fined France’s Engie 172 million zlotys (about $ 45 million) for failing to provide information on the case.

Earlier this year, UOKiK also asked Gazprom to provide new information as part of the procedure, and the Russian company responded by requesting a similar request.

As a result, the regulator decided Gazprom fines of 50 million euros for refusing to cooperate. This is the maximum penalty provided by Polish law in such a case. For its part, Gazprom pointed out that the information requested by UOKiK had nothing to do with the object of the antitrust investigation.
