At the Pentagon, Defense Minister Krassimir Karakachanov

The roadmap builds on and further develops the Cooperation Agreement with the United States in the face of new challenges in the regional and global perspective.
The document describes the framework under which the Bulgarian Armed Forces should develop by 2030.
During the talks between the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense of our country, Krassimir Karakachanov, high appreciation was expressed for the progress in bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA.
Krassimir Donchev Karakachanov is Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security in a meeting with Marcus Tommy, Director of Strategic Affairs for NATO and Europe at the White House National Security Council.
This was the first in a series of meetings of Minister Krassimir Karakachanov’s working visit, which began today, October 5.

During the talks, the issue of Euro-Atlantic integration in the Western Balkans was discussed and the role of Bulgaria as a generator of security and stability in the region was emphasized.
“Some of the Western Balkan countries must go their own way, fully complying with the criteria for EU membership and fulfilling their responsibilities under their bilateral agreements with other countries in the region,” underlined Minister Karakachanov.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of the European Union and NATO in the field of security and defense, explicitly emphasizing the growing role of bilateral cooperation with the United States in the context of increased security risks in the Balkans, the Black Sea and Middle East.
The meeting was attended by Admiral Chief of Defense Emil Eftimov, Deputy Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, the Director of the Defense Policy and Planning Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Radostin Iliev and the Director of the Public Relations Directorate and Protocol of the Ministry of Defense Alexander Urumov.

Lockheed Martin emphasized that the production process was proceeding in accordance with the signed contract. The willingness to continue cooperation in the modernization process of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria was also expressed.
During the Bulgarian Defense Minister’s visit to the United States, meetings will be held in the Pentagon with Defense Minister Mark Esper, as well as in the Senate and the State Department.
