Legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen has lost the battle with throat cancer. Sources close to him say he died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

His wife, Gianni, his son, Wolfgang, and his brother, Alex, were with him in the last moments of his life. The hospital explained that Van Halen, 65, had distractions in his brain, which actually led to the fatal end.
The guitarist has been battling the insidious disease for more than a decade. During the last year, he underwent chemotherapy and was admitted to the hospital for stomach problems.
Dutch-born Eddie Van Halen founded the rock band Van Halen with his brother Alex, bassist Mark Stone, and singer David Lee Roth in 1972.
He was considered one of the best rock guitarists of all time. He is ranked eighth in Rolling Stone magazine’s ranking and fourth in Total Guitar magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
