Hairstylists, makeup artists and estheticians cannot listen to the radio in their salons and studios while serving clients, unless they have paid their royalties. NOVA viewers noted that they had been visited by the police and warned that they would face fines if they did not follow the rules.
Ekaterina Mechkueva, who runs a makeup studio, is one of the victims. It was visited by the relevant authorities and issued a warning. “The fines are prohibitive for small businesses like mine. They are in the range of 2,000 to 20,000 lev, if they find me serving customers and there is a radio on,” he said on the “Hello Bulgaria” program.
