A master of male cuts rides trains on the third line

Ruseva hopes that her example will be followed by other women and that soon there will be more typists on the subway.

22 years after the commissioning of the first section, the Sofia metro already has a female conductor, 24 Chasa found out.

The first woman to drive subways in the capital,

in appearance

it is fine and fragile,

but before that is

she was also a driver of

freight trains

She is Petya Ruseva and since the end of August, when the first 8 stations of the new third subway line were launched, she has been carrying passengers underground.

The 41-year-old typist has two children, an older daughter and a 12-year-old boy. Both are proud of their mother, who with her courage to choose the profession considered male, enters the history of the subway.

And this novelty has already been noticed by passengers.

“Some are surprised to see a woman in the cabin, while others are happy. Recently, a woman made me very happy. We were in the terminal and we had to pass passengers to change staterooms. The woman stopped me, greeted me and said, “Well done!” Says Ruseva.

For about a month since he was a driver for the third line, he has not had an unusual or emergency situation underground.

But despite being a modest 40-something pounds, he also drove a freight train that weighed more than 2,000 tons.

Otherwise, until 3 years ago, Ruseva, a native of Gorna Oryahovitsa, had no idea that she would drive a train.

I worked in

sewing company,

There are computer rule patterns for men’s suits. She explains that she became a typist by coincidence.

Otherwise, her father is a machinist, but the saying “a machinist is my father, I too will be a machinist” did not apply to her and this was certainly not her childhood dream.

“I needed a change in my life. I decided to move. Now I live in Pernik. First I started working in a transport company and now I’m on the subway,” says Petya.

As he wondered what kind of change he wanted, the trucking company where his father worked announced courses for drivers. She joked, “Take a course and become a typist.” And so it happened: Petya took the course and was later hired by the company. It was in charge for two years. Then she took another course to be a subway driver. Traffic regulations, trains – equipment, reaction to various situations and breakdowns, electrical safety and finally driving training were studied.

Is ruseva

took four exams,

to become a subway conductor: this requires all applicants to carry passengers underground.

However, she hopes that she will not be the only subway driver for a long time, that others will be scared and “soon I will have companions”.

“Physical effort is not required, but a stable psyche is needed, because the mental load is great – you are responsible for the life and health of the people you drive, you must have a quick and precise reaction, be careful at all times” . The equipment is new, it is different from the other two metro lines, ”explains Ruseva.

I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman. This is our employee and I treat her like everyone else. I’m doing well, says one of Ruseva’s bosses. When asked if more women would come to drive the trains, he replied, “Let them come.”

The profession is considered male, so they are probably not afraid to come for now. You must have a separate driver’s license to apply for a job on the metro, the boss added.

“I was lucky to already have a qualification. But there are very few women with such qualification,” adds Petya.

“It is different. It is difficult with freight trains, because their management is more specific, but you travel on the metro and that is very responsible. And here it is not easy” – this answers the question of which is easier – travel by train or by train on the metro.

And then with the first woman, a metro conductor in our country, we joke that after the New Year, when the other 4 stations on the third line in “Ovcha Kupel” will be launched, Ruseva will come by train from Pernik to work and will go straight. gets on the other subway train. The reason is that at the last station of the third line, on the ring road to “Gorna Banya”, there will be a direct connection for passengers on the Sofia – Pernik railway line with the metro.

“It is not a male profession. A woman can do a great job. Therefore, women, do not worry, take the course to be more”, Ruseva is categorical.

Y

after new year

probably in the subway

there will be another

typist,

as a woman she has also enrolled in the new training course.

Otherwise, in the world, women, female conductors of the subway, are not an unusual sight.

Women have the potential to work on the subway and we welcome the idea of having more typists. I think the third line is very suitable because it has the most modern technologies, and the trains are of a new generation, so I hope there will be more willing female drivers, said the head of the “Metropolitan” EAD, Prof. Stoyan Bratoev .
