The “Great People’s Uprising 4” was announced on the 87th night of a protest against the government and the prosecutor №1. Among the demands is the holding of early elections.
Dissatisfied with the authorities, they have already met in the Plaza de la Independencia at 7:00 p.m. The police protected the protest and the participants passed through the checkpoints.
The situation at the beginning of the evening is calm. It is expected that there will be no escalation of tension in the fourth “Great Uprising of the People”. The Poison Trio also called for a peaceful demonstration.
The organizers of the protest announced that tonight the “checkpoints are loose” and await provocateurs. They asked the protesters to go to the police for help if they saw people who wanted to provoke violence.
There are several checkpoints in the area and the police are checking everyone who comes to the square. It is forbidden to carry pyrotechnics, weapons and bottles with drinks of more than half a liter.
The police took their places around government buildings in the early afternoon. The tents of The System Kills Us mothers were searched again.
“We are not concerned about this, no one will leave anything dangerous in the tents with the children,” said Vera Ivanova.
Some of the protesters said they did not mind the police checks upon entering the Triangle of Power, while others said they expected provocations after 10 p.m.
The first protesters arrived in the square before 5:00 p.m. It is unclear how long the protest will last.
The Municipality of Sofia announced that the demonstration is not regulated and the only ones who have asked permission for discontent under the windows of power are the mothers of “The system kills us.”
Around 20:00, the space of the Triangle of Power was already full of protesters.
On the walls of the former Party House, the protest organizers projected messages in different languages from Bulgarian citizens residing abroad to MEPs, who will participate in a debate on the situation in our country.
Organizers of the protest said they would try to end the demonstration at 10:30 pm to prevent possible provocations and escalation of tensions with law enforcement. Some of the protesters began to disperse after 9 p.m.
However, at the end of the demonstration, at 9:20 pm, Arman Babikyan asked the protesters to march towards the old National Assembly building and pray at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
During “Great Popular Uprising 3”, tensions arose between protesters and the police near the old parliament building, which did not allow them to enter the cathedral. Tonight, however, law enforcement officials provided protesters with access to the square near St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Some of those in power surprisingly stopped at the police cordon next to the old National Assembly building and asked the uniformed men for an answer as to why they had been detained before and are now allowed to enter the square freely. There was an exchange of comments between protesters and police chiefs.
Another part of the protesters moved to the cathedral with the chant of “Renunciation” and placed a huge banner with the same inscription in front of its entrance.
Shortly after 10:00 pm, those in power made their way to Eagle Bridge. Traffic was blocked in Tsarigradsko Shosse. The atmosphere of the protest remained peaceful, without provocation and without tension with the police.
Around 11:30 pm, most of the protesters dispersed.
