Leeds and Manchester City drew 1: 1 in a fourth round match of the English Premier League, played at the Ellen Road Stadium.
In the torrential rain in Yorkshire, coach Pep Guardiola’s players took the lead early in the game, thanks to Rahim Stirling (17 ‘). However, the locals increased their speed and Rodrigo (59 ‘) equalized. The curious thing about the game was that, for the first time in a long time, the “citizens” allowed themselves to be outplayed in possession of the ball, 52:48 percent in favor of Leeds. The most accurate shots on goal also benefited the hosts: 7: 2.
Thus, City was ranked tenth in the league standings with an asset of 4 points, as did Tottenham and Newcastle. Leeds is in fifth place with 7 points.
The game started well for the guests, who were able to take the lead in the fourth minute. Kevin de Bruyne took an insidious shot from a direct free kick from a comfortable position. However, the ball hit the left post.
Soon after, however, the logical thing happened. Rahim Stirling receives the ball at the edge of the penalty area. The speedy striker broke free from the home team’s defense and shot into the lower right corner – 0: 1.
However, this did not scare the Leeds players and they were able to reestablish the equalizer in the 37th minute. Stuart Dallas received a deep pass into the box. The footballer controlled the ball and sent it to the left post. Unfortunately for him, goalkeeper Ederson made a great save.
City responded with a long pass, which found an exposed Phil Foden, who took advantage of the space in front of him and fired a shot from about 20 meters, but sent the ball over the crossbar.
In added time in the first half, Mandy made a childish mistake and gave the ball to Eiling, who faked Laporte well and shot. Ederson, however, showed the kind of salvage.
At the beginning of the second half, Leeds tied. Rodrigo, who reached the minutes as a reserve, was in the right place at the right time, after a kicked ball hit his feet. Without thinking, the player sent the ball into the door by 1: 1.
In the 70th minute, the goalkeeper intercepted a cross into the penalty area and near the penalty spot made an insidious header into the upper right corner. Ederson, however, made a good save, deflecting the ball towards the crossbar.
In the 85th minute Stirling tried his luck with a powerful diagonal shot from the edge of the penalty area. Luckily for goalkeeper Melie, the ball went just over the crossbar.
In the last minutes of the game both teams scrambled for a winning goal and the situations in front of the gates of Mellie and Ederson alternated one after another, but a new goal was never reached.
