The fourth Great Popular Uprising began today in Sofia at 5 pm Protesters gathered in the Triangle of Power (the area between the buildings of the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Presidency).
The main demands of the protesters, who have been in the squares for 87 days, are the resignations of the cabinet and the attorney general, and the calling of early parliamentary elections.
There is a greater police presence in the area and there are organized checkpoints.
At 9:30 p.m., the participants left for the old National Assembly building. One of the entrances to the historic building was guarded by the police.
Right now, the event in the center of the capital is proceeding without incident.
The first “Great Popular Uprising” took place on September 2, the opening day of the new plenary session. Thousands of people have gathered in the Triangle of Power since this morning. Then clashes broke out between protesters and the police. There was an escalation of tension in the dark hours of the day.
On September 10, the “Great Popular Uprising 2” took place, which has passed without tension. Then the protesters returned to the National Assembly. The protest lasted from morning until the end of the day. Then a 50 meter Bulgarian flag was unfurled.
And on September 22, Independence Day was the Third Great People’s Uprising. There were also tensions in the area of the old parliament building at the time.
