The Bulgarian government has the support of the European People’s Party, he boasted. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Facebook, quoting EPP President Donald Tusk after meeting him in Brussels.
At the same time, on his Facebook profile, however, Donald Tusk chose a completely different approach to announcing the meeting. And it doesn’t mention that the EPP supports the government.

You have our support! This was told to me by the President of the EPP – European People’s Party, Donald Tusk, during our meeting in Brussels. We both believe that the Bulgarian government has achieved important successes both for the country and for the European integration of the Western Balkans; These policies can ensure the sustainable development of Bulgaria. He congratulated me on the victory of the GERB in the by-elections and said that regular parliamentary elections are the way that all citizens can express their opinion. According to Tusk, systemic parties such as the GERB Political Party have the capacity, experience, and intelligence necessary to lead their countries through the crisis. We also commented on the recovery package to address the effects of the coronavirus on the EU economies. The European People’s Party has made an important contribution to the rescue plan. That is why the EPP family is the biggest and strongest!
We also discussed with Tusk the first EC Report on the Rule of Law in the EU. It is objective and reflects the efforts of our country to fight corruption. Bulgaria will implement all the recommendations of the Venice Commission and the EC for reforms in the judiciary.
Of course, Tusk may have said these words, but as can be seen on his Facebook profile, he chooses to emphasize something else, namely the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption in Bulgaria.

Open conversation today with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov. The country has come a long way during his tenure, but challenges remain. More reforms are needed related to the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption, core values of the EPP. And democracy in Bulgaria will have its last word in the elections.
