They stopped more than 1.6 tons of ice cream due to bacteria – Bulgaria

Following a quality inspection commissioned by the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office, 1,671.77 kg of ice cream were banned, the prosecution said.

Across the country, 463 inspections were carried out to verify compliance with the regulatory requirements that guarantee the safety of ice cream, after consulting the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency by the prosecution. The inspection was commissioned after revelations in the media about cases of coliforms and Escherichia coli in ice creams sold in the country.

The BFSA issued 29 prescriptions and 2 records for administrative violations. Discrepancies have been identified regarding the lack of food information for consumers on the presence of substances or products that cause allergies and intolerances; lack of enough utensils to spill ice cream; lack of individually packaged scoops when selling ice cream to the end user.

A suspension order was issued for all RFSD Targovishte activity at one site due to poor technical and hygienic conditions of the equipment and lack of records under the Technology Documentation.
