691,944 people receive up to BGN 560 per month, which is less than the minimum wage of BGN 610.

15,624 Bulgarians receive a salary of more than BGN 9,000 per month. This follows from a written response from Finance Minister Kiril Ananiev to a question from MP Zhelyo Boychev. Of these, income from income tax amounts to BGN 34,652 million.

The data correspond to July of this year. Compared to the same month in 2019, people with a salary above BGN 9,000 have increased by 324 people.

At the opposite pole, in the group of people with the lowest income, there are 691,944 people. They take up to BGN 560 per month, which is below the minimum wage of BGN 610. However, a year ago there were much more: 934,601 people. It is very likely that its decrease is mainly due to the fact that this year the minimum wage was increased from BGN 560 to BGN 610.

It is also clear from the Ministry of Finance data that a total of 2,312,684 Bulgarians received a salary in July. There are 146,095 people less than in the same month last year.

More than half of them, 1,344,329, have a monthly income of 560 to 2,000 BGN. The largest group is the group with a salary of BGN 560 to 2,100: there are 730,025 people. People with a salary between 1,000 and 2,000 BGN are 614,304, those with a salary between 2,000 and 3,000 BGN are 151,609, and 90,471 people have received between 3,000 and 6,000 BGN. Between 6 and 9 thousand levs were received by 18,707 people.

According to tax returns filed in 2019, more than 1.5 million Bulgarians have declared annual income of up to 6,720 BGN. More than 108,000 BGN per year, which makes more than 9,000 BGN per month, have been declared by 20,237 people. Their number is higher than that of those who have the same salary, because the annual tax returns include other income such as rents, annuities, etc.

The amount received by individuals for dividends and shares in liquidation of various companies is significant. According to data from the Ministry of Finance, in 2019 such revenues have been announced for almost BGN 5.995 million. The report does not indicate how many people took this money.
