Trakia Highway
The repair of the compromised section of the Trakia road between Chirpan and Stara Zagora will still start this fall and will cost BGN 90 million for just one lane. However, it will be done piece by piece and canvas by canvas. This was announced by RIA, referring to the member of the board of directors of the agency Ivan Dosev.
There will be no public procurement, and the repair will be done by the company that maintains this road section and has a 4-year contract for this activity. This is the state company “Autopistas”, which under its contract is obliged to clear the snow from the entire road in winter and to carry out the repairs in progress in the rest of the seasons.
In this section, two of the three lanes are bent, the speed limit is 90 km per hour and in practice the traffic is only in the left lane, as drivers avoid the other two. The repairs were supposed to begin in the second half of September, but it is clear from Dosev’s words that they will begin in October.
“If we have to do a complete overhaul of this section of the road, we will have to close it completely. Therefore, the repair will be section by section and lane by lane, doing everything possible to continue the movement on it,” said Eng. Dosev.
After this lane is repaired, it is most likely that next year the other in the direction Burgas – Sofia will be repaired.
The RIA could not answer yesterday what makes the cost of repairs so high: 90 million BGN for 52 kilometers, given that the construction itself more than 15 years ago was 104 million BGN with VAT, but for both cloth . A few months ago, in response to a parliamentary question, Regional Minister Petya Avramova said that the estimated value of the repairs is 89 million BGN, as 70 million BGN of this money is for the road, 15 million BGN for railings and another 4 million BGN. for a new brand.
A few years ago, then-Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova also said in parliament that the repair of the Chirpan-Stara Zagora section of the Trakia highway would cost around BGN 40-50 million. Most likely only cap replacement will be considered. using asphalt layer, while now it is necessary to completely replace the pavements.
This section of the Trakia highway became operational in 2007 and was built by a Trace Group Hold company as part of a former state project. During its construction, the areas turned out to be old rice paddies with very wet soil and the contractor asked for the project to be changed, but the then highway agency, whose head at the time was Veselin Georgiev, refused.
According to experts, in addition to the asphalt being bent, the section is also dangerous for another reason: the ground is too wet and there is not enough drainage, so there is a high probability that one day the entire road will sink into this part.
