Four boys from Moscow have been friends since childhood: they grew up in the same yard and went through a lot together. Now that they have grown up, they want to find their way, but they enter the criminal community by becoming part of it. The story is well known to fans not only of Russian cinema but also of world cinema, because it has long crossed the borders of their country. This is the plot of the series “Brigade”, which appeared on the screens almost 20 years ago and was soon described by many as cult. The beginning of the series shows how Alexander Belov, played by Sergei Bezrukov, leaves the barracks and together with his faithful friends Phil (Vladimir Vdovichenkov), Cosmos (Dmitry Dyuzhev) and the Bee (Pavel Maikov) gets involved with people from the criminal contingent in Moscow. . It wasn’t long before Alexander was assassinated, but thanks to Cosmos’s father, he managed to get out of the situation. The young man was forced to leave the city for the next 2 years.
When he returned to Moscow, his old group of friends got together and the four of them started their criminal business. They established a drug trafficking channel and called their group “brigade”, which soon became one of the strongest groups in Russia.
“Brigade” was released in 2002 and is the most expensive Russian television series of its time. The crime drama was shot on film, and each of the 15 episodes cost $ 200,000. More than 110 actors take part in it, more than 900 costumes are used and more than 100 cars of different brands and classes are used: “Moskvich”, “Zhiguli”, “Chevrolet”, “Mercedes”, “Chrysler”, “Lamborghini” and many others. The scenes were shot in different locations, including footage of the Council of Ministers building and the Soviet political prison in Butyrka.
The script of the series has been worked on for more than 2 years, for which the team consults with people from the police and special services, as well as with the criminal contingent. The characters do not have specific prototypes, but are a generalized image of the events that occurred in the 90s in Russia.
A month before filming began, according to the idea of producer Anatoly Sivushov, the four actors who will play the main roles coexist to meet and get closer.
Among them is Sergei Bezrukov, the youngest winner of the Russian State Prize and a leading actor at the Tabakerka Theater under the direction of Oleg Tabakov, who at that time had gained experience on stage. “Brigade” helps you make the breakthrough. “I have played quite important roles in the theater, but I have more supporting roles in the cinema. ‘I read the script for’ Brigade ‘a while ago and even then it caught me,” says the actor, while working on the crime drama. role is that of a serious person who is like this despite his youth. Sergei was born on October 18, 1973 in Moscow. His father, Vitaly Bezrukov, is an actor and director who worked in the satirical theater in the Russian capital. His mother Natalia was a store manager.
When he graduated from high school, Sergei entered the Moscow Institute of Theater Arts. He graduated 4 years later, in 1994, specializing in theater and film acting, and was immediately accepted into Oleg Tabakov’s company.
“Brigade”, in which Sergei plays the title role, achieves unprecedented success: the actors have not yet gotten used to the fame that calms them down. “I would compare our film to ‘Moscow doesn’t believe in tears.’ But this time the story is not about a weaver, but about bandits, ”says producer Anatoliy Sivushov.
The series opens many doors for Bezrukov: great directors have noticed his talent. In 2005 he received the role of the poet Sergei Yesenin in the television series of the same name, which was based on a novel by Bezrukov’s father. Soon after, he was given another lead role – Yeshua Ha-Notsri in a series based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s remarkable novel “The Master and Margarita.”
Sergei has more iconic roles in his career. He plays the bard Vysotsky – with a lot of makeup and computer effects, he becomes unrecognizable and looks exactly like the great musician.
By decree of President Dmitry Medvedev on June 12, 2008, Bezrukov became a People’s Artist of Russia.
At the end of last year, the actor was in Bulgaria for the filming of the series “Optimists”.
