Aggression between students in the center of Plovdiv. Several children suffered minor injuries after exchanging blows, kicks and shots with eggs. The police also had to intervene to prevent more serious incidents. The root of the conflict was intolerance towards people of different sexual orientations.
On Sunday afternoon, a group of students passed through the central streets of Plovdiv with homophobic screams. Other videos uploaded to the Internet show young people heading to Tsar Simeon’s garden and beginning to attack their companions with eggs and flour. The tension turns into verbal and physical self-mutilation.
Georgi is the child who first shared a video of what happened on social media. It was there, he said, that the organization had taken place days before.
“Social networks were full of threats, publications, flags crossed out to the contrary and they wrote something like that on Sunday they meet to expel them. Most are practicing some martial arts, people who are leading homophobes, “he said.
One of the attacked girls also stands in front of Nova’s camera. “The guy who organized this whole idea and the other guys who were in their 30s turned against us. When they saw us, they first said: ‘No, these are not homosexuals, leave them alone.’ But there was a girl with us. She was short-haired and nothing more, judge by her appearance, “he said.
The girls try to protect their girlfriend. “After they saw that we were standing in front of her to protect her, they started spitting at us and pointing eggs at us. Then it all turned into a fight and some of the girls started kicking,” added the girl.
Photos showing children with sores and bruises on their bodies also appeared on Instagram. Georgi condemns the actions of her companions. “I’ve been very sad to see things like that since I was little, because I don’t think people should hate each other. We are all the same, I don’t divide people,” he said.
In a letter to the media, the Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had launched an investigation to establish who were the participants and witnesses to the clashes.
