Manchester United achieved an extremely bizarre 3: 2 victory away from Brighton in a Premier League third round match. The match continued with a score of 2: 1 for the “red devils” until the very end, when the first Soli March tied for the hosts, and literally with the last corner kick of the match he was awarded a penalty for playing with his hand of Neil Mope in his own penalty area. Bruno Fernandes can score 3: 2.
Curiously, the penalty was awarded after the intervention of the VAR and after the last referee signal from judge Chris Cavanagh. The “seagulls” can feel damaged after dominating the entire match and hitting the rafters in 5 cases.
In the first half, Graham Potter’s team advantage was clear, as Leandro Trusar hit David De Gea’s side goal post in 2 instances before Ben White did the same. However, in the 40th minute, Brighton naturally took the lead after Neil Mope scored from the penalty spot 1: 0.
The lead lasted just 2 minutes before Harry Maguire scored off a great cross from Bruno Fernandes from a direct free kick. Ten minutes after the resumption of the game, Marcus Rashford hit the mark after a solo counterattack and a great pass from the Portuguese point guard again.
In the second half, the dominance of the locals continued and logically in minute 94 the result was tied. After another gradual attack, Tariq Lampty found Soy March uncovered at the back post, who couldn’t go wrong for 2: 2 from just a few yards.
However, the drama was yet to come. After the next corner kick, in the last possible second of the match, United was awarded a penalty. Referee Chris Cavanagh initially played late in the match, but VAR intervened to get the referee to change his mind and award an 11-meter penalty, scored by Bruno Fernandes.
So United recorded their first 3 points during the campaign, while Brighton was again a great performer, but came up empty and has 3 points from 3 games.
