A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Istanbul and the surrounding areas, Turkish media reported, citing BTA.

The earthquake was registered by the Directorate for Disaster and Emergency Management / AFAD / at 4:38 p.m. local time and Bulgarian time. The epicenter was in the Sea of ​​Marmara, about twenty kilometers from the city of Marmaraereglisi, Tekirdag county.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.83 kilometers. The earthquake was felt throughout the Marmara region, incl. in the district of Istanbul. This area is seismically active and many scientists predict that in the future there will be an earthquake of more than 7 degrees.
