Tensions in the capital’s Fakulteta district. The reason is that the first residential building for maritime containers is ready.
It should accommodate residents of so-called Vietnamese dormitories. However, people rebel against this decision.
Vietnamese dorm residents live in miserable conditions, but prefer to stay there in front of a house made from a container. The reason: their families are crowded and the vans, according to them, are crowded.
A total of 51 families are planned to be accommodated in the container cooperative, as Units 7 and 8 of the dormitories must be demolished. The local government ensures that they have taken everything into account for the future of the people.
Protest in Sofia over Vietnamese bedrooms
“Remember, however, that they are for socially disadvantaged families. We cannot put 20 people in an apartment, even if it is four rooms. But we have families of 8 to 10 people each,” explained Ivan Chakarov, mayor of Krasna Polyana.
The apartments are one, two and four bedrooms. Families will stay according to the number of members. Some are willing to resist.
The residents of the “Faculty” are not willing to accept new neighbors. To avoid an escalation of tension, there is a greater police presence in the neighborhood.
The container cooperative is almost ready. All apartments already have underfloor heating. There is also electricity and only finishing works remain.
Residents will have to furnish their new houses and pay a monthly rent of between BGN 20 and 45.
