A person from the ministry personally introduced me to how to steal systematically from European projects. I prefer to protect my source, but it is a person who knows the procedures. I was very concerned when I saw immediately what the situation was in Bulgaria.
These are the words commented on the autochthonous reality by the German MEP of the “Greens” Daniel Freund, who yesterday went up to the protest platform on the day of the III Great Popular Uprising. He made this comment on the air of Bulgarian National Radio.
Freund is also co-chair of the Anti-Corruption Intergroup in the European Parliament.
“I have been actively traveling in Europe in recent months. I was in Hungary, in the Czech Republic, now I am in Bulgaria. I notice that we have a problem with the allocation of European funds. And I saw this on the street yesterday: the way European funds are allocated does not lead to the well-being of the common man, but creates corruption for a selected elite. And we urgently need to think about how to deal with this. We have made it clear that we will not pass the 7-year budget if we do not link it to rights fundamental, the fight against corruption. EU money should help in this fight, “said Freund.
He pointed out that the situation in Bulgaria is actually very similar to that of Hungary and the Czech Republic, but the difference is that our country has decided to join the EPPO, which can have a positive effect on the situation.
We note that leaders of the European People’s Party such as Orban and Borisov are merciful in terms of criticism, there are no sanctions, said Daniel Freund.
“The EPP is currently de facto anti-European propaganda and tolerates corrupt systems. This is a big mistake on the part of Europe. And the crisis is spreading because more and more countries are falling into this trap. This is an error by Angela Merkel, inclusive, ”said the German MEP.
“We have evidence of this corruption: investigations by NGOs, investigative journalists, but also OLAF, the EU anti-fraud office. And despite the limited resources they have, they do their job. The prosecution must take place in the Member States; We see that this is not happening. Regarding the fact that the Bulgarian government denies the accusations of the NGOs and the media, accusing them of being financed from outside and by oligarchs, I will give an example with Hungary. “Since Orbán came to the power, their friends and family have vastly increased their wealth and have become billionaires on contracts financed with European money, “said Freund.
