Young people had to communicate intensively and risk groups had to hide

“I don’t think schools should be restricted due to COVID-19. Yes, sick children should be quarantined, but not all classes.” This was stated by Assistant Professor Andrey Chorbanov, Head of the Immunology Department of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in front of Nova TV.

“Sweden, for example, which did not stop schools and gardens, has shown that this is not a factor in the spread of the disease. This can be seen in all their data. However, the elderly do not live there with the students,” he said in the studio. .

According to him, it makes no sense for children to wear masks in schools. “I don’t think it’s reasonable for them to use them there and then communicate without them. I don’t see any benefit from these measures for children,” Chorbanov insisted.

“Without wanting to contradict state policy, I generally believe that group immunity is something that can effectively prevent the spread,” he said. And he added: “Otherwise, as long as there are potential carriers, as long as there are young people who will be distributors without getting sick, in practice there is a risk.”

“Personally, I think the most important focus was that the young people communicated extremely intensively during the period and the risk groups were hidden. However, it is difficult to separate the adults from the young people,” said Andrei Chorbanov.
