This afternoon a significant number of police cars can be seen in Sofia, in anticipation of the third “Great People’s Uprising” against the ruling party.
Photos and videos on social media show many patrols moving through the main streets. The police presence with cars has also increased on Dondukov Blvd., near the building of the old Party House, where the new plenary hall is located.
The organizers of the Poison Trio protests announced that the start of the protest will be at 5 pm, when they will begin to meet in the Plaza de la Independencia in front of the Council of Ministers.
The first and second “Uprising of the Great People” took place on September 2 and 10. On September 2, the event coincided with the opening of the new autumn session of the National Assembly and provoked clashes between uniformed soldiers and protesters. At night, employees of the Interior Ministry were attacked with bombs, stones and bottles, and dozens of them were injured. However, the escalation triggered a retaliatory coup and some of the protesters, including journalists, were beaten and their equipment was broken. There were also many detainees.
However, the second “Great Popular Uprising” passed peacefully and without escalation of tensions, after the SDVR drastically intensified the measures, which are expected to continue today, so as not to lead to confrontations again.
