President Rumen Radev
Rumen Georgiev Radev is a Bulgarian military reserve major general. Former commander of congratulated the Bulgarians on Independence Day. Here is the full text of what the head of state said:
“Dear compatriots,
One hundred and twelve years separate us from the memorable September 22, to whom the words “Always peaceful, my people today yearn for cultural and economic progress” echoed in the ancient capital Veliko Tarnovo; nothing in this direction should stand in the way of Bulgaria; nothing should stop you from succeeding. Such is the desire of My People, such is their will: to be as He wants. “
The proclamation of independence is one of the most brilliant triumphs of the Bulgarian state. A bold but forward-thinking act, around which Bulgarians rallied regardless of their political affiliations and beliefs. A rare moment in which citizens and rulers managed to “think alike and desire one thing” in the name of the welfare of the Homeland.
In 1908, young Bulgaria was on an equal footing on the world stage thanks to a generation of statesmen of character, the will of the entire nation to forge with work and dignity a modern, just and prosperous state.
Today, all of us, citizens and politicians, let us recognize our own historical role and, with a sense of duty towards our family and our country, let us take our destiny in our own hands.
“Long live a free and independent Bulgaria!
Long live the Bulgarian people! “
