A bloody double murder did not give the residents of the entire neighborhood a moment of peace all night. The victims are a young couple: a 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman. Italian soccer referee Daniele de Santis and his girlfriend Eleonora Manta were killed with a knife.
The bloody incident took place in a block of flats located in the area of the train station in the town of Lecce. Neighbors first heard a high-profile scandal in De Santis’s apartment and then on the staircase. The body of the soccer referee was found on the stairs with multiple stab wounds. His girlfriend was also in serious condition in the apartment. Despite the intervention of emergency teams, the lives of the two were not saved.

Investigators are working on a double murder version. Eyewitnesses saw an unknown man fleeing the block, carrying a knife with him. Numerous witnesses were questioned. In an attempt to catch the killer, the entire neighborhood was blocked by police officers and checkpoints were set up throughout the city. The bodies of the two victims were taken to the city morgue for autopsies.
Daniele de Santis has played matches mainly in the Italian Serie C. During his career he has presided over 130 official meetings. In 2017 he made his Serie B debut in the match between Pisa and Benevento.
