Bulgaria has surrendered a foreign citizen to Turkey, announced by the Ministry of the Interior. The transfer was carried out in accordance with the Readmission Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Turkey.
Hristo Terziiski’s office claims that it is not about “expulsion” and “deportation” of a Turkish citizen to the Republic of Turkey.
The man spent a total of 9 months in a Bulgarian prison. On September 18, 2020, the illegal resident foreign citizen Selehattin Yuryun was returned to his home country in compliance with the Readmission Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Turkey.
The process began on September 2, 2020, after the Ministry of the Interior received a letter from the Ministry of Justice.
Following investigations, it was established that he was denied refugee status and imposed an administrative measure of “return to the country of origin” of December 18, 2019 under article 41 of the Aliens Act in the Republic of Bulgaria .
The structures of the Ministry of the Interior have not received additional information about the change in the status of the foreign citizen Yuryun. The Border Police has created an organization to free him from the common borders of the European Union when he is released from prison.
Following the conclusion of the Readmission Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Turkey, from 2016 until now only 431 people residing illegally in our country have been expelled from the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
