The oldest woman in the world, Japanese Tanaka Kane, reached a respectable age of 117 years and 261 days. Thus, she “broke” the record of another of her compatriots, reports the Kyodo news agency.

The previous longevity record was held by his compatriot Nabi Tajima, a resident of Kikai Island in southwestern Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture, who died in April 2018, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

As early as March last year, Tanaka, who lives in a nursing home in Fukuoka, was registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person on the planet.

She celebrated the record with her favorite drink: a glass of soda and chocolate bars, dressed in a vest, given to her by her sixty-year-old great-grandson Aiji, according to Japanese media.

Her family explains that due to the measures against the pandemic it is difficult to visit the house, but they assure that the lady is in very good shape and intends to spend up to 120 or more.

“Even in the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic, my grandmother is fine and seems to enjoy her life every day. As a family, we are happy and proud of her new record,” Agee told local media.
