European media to Toma Bikov: we cover your corruption for free

European media contacted by the Brussels site “Euroactive” (Euractiv), yesterday denied the accusation of the GERB deputy Toma Bikov that his publications were paid for Bulgaria, pointing out that such practices are alien to them.

Toma Bikov made the accusations on the BNT program “From the day”. The presenter was surprised by her statement, to which he replied that such a “service” was not particularly expensive.

Following the September 2 protests, articles critical of the government of Boyko Borissov and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev appeared in the Western media. According to media experts, it is critical that the press in Germany, which has so far turned a blind eye to the GERB government, is now at the forefront of criticism, Euroactive notes.

After Euroactive sent emails to the editorial offices of Deutsche Welle, SPIEGEL, BBC, Guardian, Euronews, Politico and IOUserver, denials began to emerge. that they do not accept external payment to inform their readers and viewers, because that would be a flagrant violation of their professional duties and journalistic ethics.

Among the reactions on Facebook are many opinions that Bikov’s suggestion about Western media bribery is based on his own understanding, and that of GERB, of working with the fourth power. It certainly works in Bulgaria, but not abroad, “writes Euroactive.

“We have not received a single signal of withdrawal of support from the European People’s Party (EPP). What is being reproduced in the European press are publications paid directly by the Bulgarians.”Bikov told BNT on Friday.

However, when asked what media and publications he was referring to, he could not specify. “Since I have no proof, I cannot say a specific publication, but a large part of it is requested”Bikov said.

“The European media, by the way, also take money”He added without specifying which ones he was referring to.

“Hey, how many people to order in Bulgaria is not that expensive. I can’t say names.”Bikov said.

Not only publications from Western Europe, but also from abroad, write about the 73 days of ongoing protests against the government of Boyko Borissov and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, as well as the corruption problems in our country.

Die Zeit, Die Welt, Rheinfalz, Spiegel, The Independent, Euroactive, Euronews, The Brussels Times, Politico published materials that reflect the situation in our country. “Intelligence”, “Guardian”, Polish Institute of International Relations, “Financial Times” (FT), US media The World and others, BGNES recalls.

Meanwhile, from the media program for Southeast Europe of the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation They harshly criticized Toma Bikov for his remarks about the western media, which accepts money.

The foundation announced that the serious media in Germany do not charge money for articles, especially related to Bulgaria.

On his Facebook page, Konrad Adenauer’s media show claims that, as a member of the parliamentary committee on culture and media, Bikov was invited for a conversation, but he never responded.

“We would be happy to tell you that, at least in the serious media in Germany, no one takes money for reporting, especially for text messages about Bulgaria.”, write from the media program.

Earlier this week, the German magazine SPIEGEL published its own investigation, according to which the Bulgarian government and then-chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov helped Turkey persecute various opponents of the Ankara regime and thus violated international conventions and legal principles. The post refers to secret messages from the Turkish embassy in Sofia.

The specific case that SPIEGEL wrote about was the deportation of Abdullah Buyuk. Borissov has yet to comment on the case and Tsatsarov has denied the allegations in the investigation. Buyuk announced that he is suing Bulgaria in the European Court of Human Rights.

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is a political foundation close to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), which includes Chancellor Angela Merkel, one of the European leaders closest to Borissov.

Earlier today, Democratic Bulgaria Co-President Atanas Atanasov said that SPIEGEL was a pro-government German publication and as such coordinated the information it published with the German government. “To me, this all means that he has withdrawn his support for Boyko Borissov.”Atanasov said.
