Grigor Dimitrov managed a very difficult victory against 19-year-old Yannick Siner and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Masters Series tournament in Rome. The Bulgarian reached a turning point of 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4 after more than two hours.
His next opponent will be Hugo Humber or Denis Shapovalov. Dimitrov is in the part of the scheme in which Rafael Nadal is also.
The match with Siner had nothing to do with the Bulgarian’s previous challenge, he convincingly won 6: 1, 6: 0 against Yoshihito Nishioka.
The match started tough for Dimitrov, who allowed a run to zero in the first game. He immediately had a chance to come back, leading with 40:15, but his opponent fought back in a long game.
At the end of the set, the Bulgarian could not get in the way of the Italian and relented.
The second set started the same way, as Sinner hit zero at first. This time Dimitrov managed to respond quickly and tied. In the fifth game he defended after 15:40, and at the end of the set he took his second opportunity to break through and after 6: 4 he reached the tie.
The disputed game moved to the third set. In it, Dimitrov hit with a zero break in the fourth game. The Bulgarian kept his lead and served for the victory in 5: 3, but made a breakthrough.
Then Dimitrov had several chances to break through and win the match. The great goal came after a blunder from Sinner, who sent the ball into the net.
