The difficult victory over BATE Borisov and qualification for the Europa League third qualifying round made CSKA and the “reds” fans dream of a European campaign again.
CSKA erased the Bulgarian nightmare of BATE and the dreams of the Europa League groups
The reason does not lie so much in the performance of the team as in the draw for the next stage. In it, CSKA will once again host the modest B36 Torshavn from the Faroe Islands. And while nowadays hardly any opponent should be underestimated, we can’t help but admit that the next match can only be defined as a dream for this phase of the tournament.
Because with the expected success over Torshavn, CSKA will be just one step closer to the group stage of the Europa League. The Reds last played in the groups 10 years ago, and now it seems closer than ever in the last decade.
But how realistic is the group ranking? To answer this question, we must look at potential opponents for the playoffs. One thing is certain in them: with their coefficient, the CSKA will be 100% misplaced.
But we must say immediately that this does not preclude the mission of the Reds. Because among the teams currently classified are those that are at least theoretically surmountable, such as Victoria Pilsen, APOEL Nicosia, Malmö, Partizan and Standard Liege. At the same time, however, there are big European giants like the eliminated Loko Plovdiv Tottenham, Basel, Besiktas, Sporting, PSV Eindhoven and others.
Here are the 13 teams with the highest odds to be drawn:
Tottenham, Basel, Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon, Copenhagen, PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg, Victoria Pilsen, APOEL Nicosia, Galatasaray, Malmö, Partizan, Standard de Liège.
Of course, we specify that most of these teams will first have to beat their rivals in the third qualifying round. The playoffs draw is on Friday, so in a few hours we will know all the way from CSKA and Ludogorets to the Europa League groups.
